About Habla Horizon

Our Story

Habla Horizon started with a simple frustration: most Spanish learning websites are built for American or British learners. References to US high schools, British universities, European holidays — none of it quite fits the Australian experience.

Australians have their own reasons for learning Spanish. We travel to Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Peru in huge numbers. We sit DELE exams at Instituto Cervantes centres in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. We study abroad at Spanish universities. We work with Spanish-speaking colleagues across business, hospitality, healthcare and education.

So we built the resource we wished existed — Spanish learning content written with Australians in mind.

Our Mission

Habla Horizon exists to make high-quality Spanish education free and accessible for every Australian learner — whether you're a complete beginner saying hola for the first time, or an advanced learner preparing for the DELE C1 exam.

Everything on this site is free. No paywalls, no compulsory subscriptions, no advertising that gets in the way. We do offer optional digital resources in our shop, but the core lessons, guides, dictionary and flashcards will always be free.

Why Australian-specific content matters

You might wonder — isn't Spanish Spanish? Why does Australian context matter?

It matters more than you'd think. When an Australian learner reads about taking the DELE exam, they need to know about Instituto Cervantes locations in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane — not Madrid or London. When they're planning a trip to Spain, they're flying from Sydney or Melbourne on a 24+ hour flight, not hopping on a 2-hour Ryanair from London.

Even vocabulary has Australian angles. Comparisons to Australian English slang, references to places and experiences Australians actually know, and exam advice calibrated to Australian institutions — these make learning more relevant, more memorable, and more useful.
